Reactor Package Manager

By Kriss Norde

Reactor is the unofficial package manager for Fusion, built by the community. It lets you install, update and manage hundreds of Fuses, Macros, scripts and templates in one click. It has become the de facto standard way to extend Fusion. A must-have for any serious artist.

Overview

Without Reactor, installing a Fuse means: finding the file on a forum, downloading it, copying it into the right folder, restarting Fusion. With Reactor: open the UI, select the Fuse, click Install. Updates are centralized too.

Reactor is free, open source, and maintained by the We Suck Less (WSL) community. It works with Fusion standalone and DaVinci Resolve Studio (and the free version too, depending on the API).

Installing Reactor

  1. Go to We Suck Less (steakunderwater.com) and find the Reactor download.
  2. Download the Reactor-Installer.lua file.
  3. Open Fusion (or the Fusion page in Resolve).
  4. Drag and drop the .lua file into the node graph (or use Script > Run and point it to the file).
  5. The installer runs, copies the Reactor files into Fusion, and restarts.
  6. After the restart, Reactor shows up in the Fusion menu (or Workspace, depending on the version).

Usage

Open Reactor
Menu Workspace > Scripts > Reactor > Open Reactor (the path can change with the version).
Browse packages
A UI listing every available package, with descriptions, screenshots and dependencies. Filter by category (Fuses, Macros, Tools, etc.).
Install
Select a package, click Install. Automatic download, deployment to the right folder, Fusion restart if needed.
Update
Reactor regularly checks for updates to the installed packages. Update All in the UI, or per package.
Uninstall
Removes the package cleanly: files deleted, registry cleaned. Nothing left behind.

Tips

  • Install Reactor first - before anything else on a fresh Fusion install. It gives you immediate access to the whole ecosystem.
  • Reactor on Resolve Free vs Studio - some features (external scripting, API) are only available in Studio. Check compatibility.
  • Back up before a big install - installing 50 packages at once can break Fusion. Back up the Fusion folder first, or install gradually.
  • Test each pack - some Fuses are old, sometimes buggy. Test on a test comp after each install.
  • Regular updates - check Update monthly to get bug fixes and new Fuses.
  • Give back - if you develop a useful Fuse, submit it to Reactor for the community.
  • Team pipeline - standardize a minimum list of Reactor packages on every team workstation for consistency.
  • For support, the We Suck Less forum is still active and friendly. Post a question = usually an answer within a few days.
